Financial Problems in Landscaping Businesses
Financial problems in landscaping businesses
Yesterday Gene Martin, one of our star salespeople (I prefer to call them problem solvers), sent a Slack message to our team that has had me thinking ever since. And inspired this blog article. The gist was on how incredibly much pain we’re willing to bear before we get out of our own way and take action to solve the problem. In other words, it was about fixing financial problems in landscaping business.
Gene was sharing it from the context of how much financial pain and problems people are willing to bear in their landscaping business, and still agonize over taking action on it.
A problem he sees and deals with every day, in his work of trying to help in fixing financial problems in landscaping businesses once and for all.
Here’s what he had shared with the rest of us:
Don’t be like the Old Hound Dog Duke with financial problems in landscaping businesses.
A fertilizer salesman was making his rounds to the farmers in the area when he stopped in to chat with Farmer Jones.
While they were standing on Farmer Jones’s front porch, Farmer Jones’s old hound dog Duke let out this screeching, painful-sounding howl.
The salesman looked at the dog for a second a little shaken and then continued on with his conversation with Farmer Jones. After a few minutes, Duke let out another screeching, painful-sounding howl. Again the salesman was shaken for a moment but continued on with the conversation with Farmer Jones.
Farmer Jones was paying absolutely no attention to Duke.
After another five minutes or so, Duke let out a third screeching, painful-sounding howl.
The salesman could take it no longer.
He asked Farmer Jones what was wrong with his dog.
Farmer Jones politely answered that there was nothing wrong with Duke, it was just that there was a nail sticking up through the floorboards where Duke was lying and it hurt.
The salesman asked Farmer Jones why the dog just did not get up and move.
Farmer Jones answered that it must not hurt enough to move, just enough to whine about it!
Many people unfortunately are like Farmer Jones’s old hound dog Duke.
Their financial situation bothers them enough to complain about it every chance they get, but not enough to do something about it.
Do not be like Duke.
Sometimes in the journey of helping contractors, we bump into folks who like to whine about their situation, but the pain isn’t bad enough to take action.
Take action to solve your financial situation! You can do it! Others with less ability than you have, so you absolutely can! Make it happen for yourself! You deserve it!
I’ve been thinking about that story ever since.
Why on earth do we do this to ourselves?
Why are we willing to live with so much pain, rather than just buck up the discipline to do what it takes?
I mean, I think in some form or fashion, we’ve all been guilty of this tendency with financial problems.
I know I have.
But don’t let me distract you with admissions of guilt on this topic 😅
One of the best books I’ve ever read on this is Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink.
The basic message of the book is “discipline equals freedom.”
So… how long have you been living with financial problems in your landscape contracting business?
Is cash flow a problem in winter?
Pucker up every time payroll gets run?
Going late on vendor bills?
Wait…. how about: are you paying yourself?
What about: Are you paying yourself a true owner’s salary?
No?
How long are you willing to live with it that way?
Are you going to do another year next year with the same pain?
This is where I can help.
Thousands of other contractors just like you have solved this problem in their businesses.
And you TOTALLY can too.
In fact, it’s why SynkedUP exists.
I’m going to make you an offer.
We have dedicated financial coaches on our team, and their job is ONLY to make sure your numbers are dialed in so that you DO pay yourself. And not live with financial problems.
We charge a $1,000 for an hour of their time.
The results of their work often produce 5 and 6-figure results in the businesses of the contractors they work with.
I’m going to open up their calendar for you, for free.
This is your lucky break. This is your call to action. You’ve had enough, and it’s time for change.
No more financial problems.
Here’s the special link to their calendar. First come first served. Once they’re booked, the opportunity is gone.
Now… one last question: Why do you think we are willing to suffer the financial problems of inaction rather than the pain of discipline?
Hit me up in the replies or comments and let me know what you think.
I feel like I have a lot to learn on this topic.
Until next time ✌
