Sales Contractor Tips to Close More Jobs

Have you ever been frustrated with your close rate on proposals?
Or been frustrated when a prospect shows you a photo of what they want, and then give you a budget they have in mind that is far less than what it’ll take to produce what was in that photo?
Welcome to a contractor doing sales. 😉
It’s normal.
We live in a consumeristic society.
Walk into any department store and there’s always things 50% off.
Many homeowners simply won’t know or understand that it doesn’t work that way for contractors.
Contractors can’t just “knock some off the price”, just “because.”
As a contractor doing sales, it is your role to educate the customer as to what things cost.
So that they can make the decision that best matches their vision and goals.
You are the subject matter expert.
Not just a “salesperson” with commission breath.
You are the professional.
You are the expert.
If the photo they are showing you, and telling you that “I want that in my backyard” is a $100k job.
And they proceed to tell you they have been saving for a long time and have fifty whole thousand dollars for this job….
It is your role to serve them.
Explain that what they showed you in the photo they liked is $100kish.
Help them understand what they can do for $50k.
They could phase the job.
They could do only the most important pieces.
They could change the design.
They could scale that vision back to a different scale but have the same or similar elements to still get them the functionality or vibe they want.
Again… You are the expert. The professional.
Act like one.
Sell to them, serve them, like you would your grandmother.
Wanting what is best for them.
And sometimes… that will mean they are not a good fit for your company.
When that is the case – kindly refer them to someone or some resource that they may find helpful.
When you act with a genuine servant heart, working to provide the outcome that is best for them, they’ll never forget that.
Someone that couldn’t be your customer today, may be an excellent customer tomorrow.
As it’s been said before – people won’t remember what you say, but they’ll remember how you made them feel.
At Tussey Landscaping, where I worked doing high end outdoor living spaces for 15 years before I built SynkedUP, we learned a lot of these sales lessons and principles over the years.
Today Tussey does $6m+ per year with double digit net profits.
I break down 4 of these most effective and impactful sales tactics to close more jobs in this webinar.
Go make a fresh cup of coffee, pull up a chair, and listen in!
And remember, you are the expert, best positioned to serve your customer and help them make the best decision to realize their goals. Not yours.
Cheers!
