Slow Down to Speed Up

A quick leadership gut check: Are you building what really matters? Slow down, realign, and lead with intention.

I’m not going to dig into a technical topic today.

Rather, I’m going to share a bit of an update from my own personal musings, and us as a team.

This past week, the SynkedUP leadership team got together for a retreat, planning and strategizing for the future.

And of course, today is Father’s Day.

All of which put me into a bit of a reflective, even a bit nostalgic state.

When is the last time you or I paused to look around us and reflect on our blessings and growth?

For myself, I have a sense that it’s happening faster than I realize.

Family is growing up, and kids are growing into their own independent personalities.

The team is showing up again and again, and earning a seat at the table.

Our work is advancing, the future is exciting.

But as a leader, it is important to stop and do a sanity check.

Are you, am I, headed in the right direction?

Is what we are building what we intended to build?

Is the way we invest our time something we’ll be grateful for, or regret, in ten years?

That’s why I believe it’s so important to slow down to speed up.

If you’re building the wrong thing, working harder just makes it worse.

Check the compass, are you facing true north?

When is the last time you paused for a moment and gave a team member appreciation for the way they show up?

When is the last time your family and loved ones were made to feel important and special from you?

If you gain everything you ever wanted in business, but lose them, is it worth it?

If we slow down, check the compass for true north, and are intentional, the net effect is speeding up.

Making sure you are pointed in the right direction is much more effective than working harder.

My main takeaway from our time together as a SynkedUP leadership team this week was that “We don’t do this nearly enough.”

We’ll be doing this more frequently in the future for sure.

SynkedUP Exec Team

I am so excited for the future with SynkedUP.

We are on a mission to enable prosperity for blue collar contractors, and their teams.

I have a heart for the non-owner team members, I was one of them for 15 years at Tussey Landscaping.

This mission we are on has no legs without the team members.

At a strategic level, we’re investing heavily into better serving contractors that also do recurring services (e.g. mowing).

A lot of contractors do both recurring services and one-off installation jobs.

We’re also investing heavily into just making the product easier to use.

Make the things we already do simpler, faster, easier.

These initiatives will begin surfacing in the actual SynkedUP product in the coming months, and continue on over the next year or two.

As you reflect on your own goals and initiatives, remember to also take care of yourself and those that depend on you.

Weston and Kids - SynkedUP

If you’re a father, happy Father’s Day 🤝

Check your compass.

Ensure you’re building the right thing.

Choose to live with the pain of discipline rather than the pain of regret.

Say no to the urgent time thieves, and make time for the important.

God bless,
