SynkedUP Contractor Summit - The Best Investment You Can Make In Yourself

SynkedUP Contractor Summit

We’re in the middle of last-minute planning for the SynkedUP Contractor Summit in September.

Last week I wrote about how to get those 10+ year employees. There’s no doubt, that to grow your business, and not just own a job, you need a strong, long-term team.

But to attract that team, and to be the guy or girl that someone would actually want to work for… You need to invest in yourself.

We all have self-limiting beliefs, shortcomings, and flat spots, that we need to overcome. Left unchecked, we become someone that the hungry, hard-working, growth-minded employees won’t want to work for.

You know the saying “You become like the 5 closest people you hang around with.”

I think that in the business world, one of the best ways to work against that constant human nature to “fall into a rut” is to have a mentor. A coach. A peer group. Rub elbows with others just like you, in the same struggles as you, and learn and observe how they are overcoming.

That’s where attending the SynkedUP Contractor Summit can help!

Have you ever heard the example of how 2 planes take from NY, and fly to Tokyo, but one plane adjusts its heading by 1 degree soon after takeoff? The flight takes about 14 hours. If your plane adjusts its course by just 1º, after flying 6,755 miles you’d end up 112 miles away from Tokyo! This would put your plane either somewhere over the Sea of Japan or the Pacific Ocean, and you’d be running low on fuel.

Even just a 1-degree change will have a massive effect on your destination over time.

And that 1-degree change is what I’m looking for when I go mingle with my peers, talk with my coach, or ask for feedback from my employees.

How These Events Help

When I look back over my career, Aquascape’s Pondemonium event was “that” event for me. I met people, made lifelong friendships, got ideas, and made 1-degree improvements countless times over the years of going to that event.

And that is what my vision is for the SynkedUP Contractor Summit.

I want to bring value, where you can invest in yourself, and absorb the knowledge, the speakers, and the education.

I want to create an environment where you can mingle with your brothers and sisters in the industry, and pick up the practical real-life 1-degree changes.

I want to see you going home inspired, energized, and a better version of yourself.

One step closer to being that person that your best employees want to work with forever.

And I want you to bring your team members. Because I want for them, what Steve and Matt at Tussey Landscaping gave me as an employee.

What they gave me, is what made me call this industry my home.

So, I feel a great responsibility to make that happen for you. Every time my phone dings with another person registering for the event, I feel that weight.

There’s another person coming. Looking for that inspiration. That nugget they can take home.

It Can Change Lives

And there’s a very real possibility that it will have long-term impacts on their lives.

It did for Keegan Grove from Mountain Strong Landscaping who came last year. He went from 8% net profit last year to 30% 6 months later, because of the things he picked up at the event. I met him 6 months later, and he was a different person. Much more relaxed. Much more proactive mindset as opposed to reactive. Much stronger of person and leader.

Practically speaking, how are we going about structuring the event to make this growth environment possible?

We’re bringing in Brian Audia, who’s delivering the keynote on the dynamics of teams. I listened to him give this talk a few months ago, and I was like “Man! He needs to come share this message with us at the SynkedUP Contractor Summit.” Nuggets of that talk he shared still resonate in my brain today.

We’re doing a tour of Tussey Landscaping’s operation. A mature 30+ yr old design/build and landscape maintenance firm. And I’m telling you, I didn’t know what I had when I was “growing up” there as a young employee. Today I travel the country, visiting teams and businesses. I still come home and say “Tussey is one of the best teams and cultures I’ve ever witnessed.”

You Can See Real Job Sites

We’re also planning on visiting one of their recently completed job sites.

Andy Mulder, Josh Sutton, Richard Carroll, Craig Sheller, Jeremy Swihart, and more, social media and industry titans are going to be here, leading out on talks and panel discussions.

Frank Bourque, a respected business coach, is leading a session on what it takes to feel in control of your business.

Steve and Matt Martin are leading a talk on team culture. (If there’s anyone you should have your notepad out for, it’s these two)

Derek Matthews, Tussey’s top designer, is leading a session on his sales process. He sold over $5m last year. 🤯

Fred Pape, Chris Cooper, and Etienne de Bruine, all incredible SynkedUP team members and leaders, are leading sessions on how to level up your processes and understanding of business ops.

And, lastly, I’m looking forward to hosting as many of you as can stay Friday night, at my house in our backyard for dinner. Breaking bread together and having those conversations that will resonate in your brain for months to come. This is what that looked like last year 👇

The best investment you can make in your business is in yourself. After yourself, your team.
